OORDT, Arthur - Lifetime Lynden resident and businessman Arthur Oordt, 87, died Thursday (December 17, 1987) at his home, 1012 W. Grover St., Lynden. Mr. Oordt was born Aug. 27, 1900 in Lynden, and married Martha Hough on Oct. 2, 1925, in Lynden. For many years, he was co-owner and operator of Oordt Brothers Hatchery, which was on the site of Lynden's Fairway Shopping Center. The business, founded by his father, Herman Oordt, was originally known as Lynden Poultry Farms. He retired in the early 1960s. Mr. Oordt was a member Lynden's Second Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an elder and deacon. He also was a member of the Lynden Christian School Board for may years. Survivors include his wife, Martha, of the family home; two daughters, Sarah Kooy and Margaret "Midge" Timmer, both of Lynden; one son, Herman of Seattle; a sister, Elizabeth Stremler of Lynden; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Gillies Funeral Home. A memorial funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Louis Kerkstra officiating.
