Family

Born January 1, 1897 in San Francisco, California. Married Verl Augusta Abbott January 1, 1921 in Alameda, California. They had three children:

  • Vernon Arthur born August 22, 1922 in Alameda, Calif.
  • Richard Bert Born December 26, 1924 in Alameda, Calif.
  • Eunice Verl born September 29, 1933 in Oakland, Calif.

Married Loretta Klemp after the death of Verl in 1965.

Residences

In 1920, the U.S. Census shows him, at the age of 23, living with his parents and his brother Otto at 1527 1/2 Lincoln Ave. in Alameda, California. He would be married the following year.

Military Service

Served in the Army in World War 1. He was a Mechanic in Company C 8th Infantry . He served in France.

Work

He worked for White Bros. Lumber Company both in San Francisco and Alameda, California. In 1932, he and Verl bought a fifty acre farm outside Turlock,CA. Moved back to Oakland in 1933. Had his own business laying hardwood floors. In 1948 they bought a chicken ranch in Hayward, Calif.

Retirement

Retired from work in 1958 at the age of 61. Then they moved to Arkansas to be near Terry and her family. Verl died in 1965. She had been battling stomach cancer. That brought them back to CA. Had a bad auto accident on the way back She spent a lot of time at her brother's in Costa Mesa (Vern). They were also running up and down to Mexico trying to get drugs for her stomach cancer, because their wasn't much else they could do for.

Died September 22, 1968 in Fremont, CA. Buried in Irvington Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, CA in Section A Row 18 Space 16.
