ARDEATHA OSBORNE the love of her life, Dr. Emmet Camp Flanagan in 1906 and they took their honeymoon trip to San Francisco in a stagecoach, and she loved to tell the story of the “million dollar building” while they were there. Emmet died in 1926 on Christmas Day and she never remarried. She remained alert and wonderful until her death at 92. She had friends from all walks of life and everyone called her “Mother Dea,” except for my immediate family who called her “Dea Dea.” She had a will to live that was exceptional. While still in her 70s, she was seriously burned all over most of her body, broke her him, broke her knee, and hurt her back badly. Each injury, she proved the doctors wrong when the determined that she would never walk again. When I was a little girl and she was 75, she could do a backwards somersault. She could also bend over, keeping her knees straight touch her hands flat to the floor. She was a dear, sweet, “southern woman” and is remembered lovingly by everyone who had the honor of knowing her. (Reflections of Micki Flanagan Perry, granddaughter.)
