This Archibald has cost me hours over the years and I have made about as many missteps here as with any individual studied. Archibald was a traditional Crockett name, so do not mix up the generations!

At present I have just about convinced myself that Archibald was a "junior". I am suggesting that he is [1] the great-grandson of Robert and Margaret;

[2] the grandson of Robert [1739-3 December 1801] who m: Jane _____(also spelled Jean and nicknamed Jennet. Probably the Jane McCulloh (McCullough) (1743, VA-4 November 1801, SC) baptized 19 June 1743 at the old Stone Meeting House, Augusta Co, VA, daughter of Isaac McCulloch (1701-1780) and Margaret Robinson (1718-13 January 1759);

[3] the son of Archibald (1764-27 March 1797) who m: Deborah Wilson (b. 1760s) daughter of James Wilson whose 2nd wife was Margaret (McCamey) Alexander, widow of Arthur Alexander. Margaret was a daughter of John and Margaret (Breckenridge) McCamey who lived near Chambersburg, PA.

Archibald [18 Sept 1792, SC-15 Jan 1881, MS] m: 3 April 1820, NC Esther Davis [d 1860s]. He was a Methodist minister. On 2 June 1820 (Rev) Jacob Hill married Mariah Davis, Esther's sister (or half-sister?) having Archibald Crocket as bondman on the marriage bond. The will of James Davis names Mariah Hill and Esther Crockett and others.

If I am correct, then Archibald had a brother John McCamey Wilson Crockett [b ca 1793/94], known as Wilson. He m: Jane Morrow [b ca 1800/01 in Lancaster Co, SC].

As for this Rev Archie, here are some items:

Archibald Crockett [18 Sep 1792, SC--15 Jan 1881, MS] Married: 3 Apr 1820, NC Esther Davis

1837: Mecklenburg Co, NC. LW&T (E, 177) of James Davis, dated 18 April 1837, names daughter Esther Crockett and grandson James Davis Crockett. Also daughter Mariah Hill, wife of Rev Jacob Hill. James Davis owned land and a mill on the south side of McAlpine's Creek, Mecklenburg Co, NC, and elsewhere in SC and GA. James Davis was a descendant of Morgan David of Wales. This according to Harry Alexander Davis in his book Davis Family (Davies and David) in Wales and America: Genealogy of Morgan David of Pennsylvania (Washington DC, 1927). It traces down from Morgan [1620s, Wales] to Evan [ca 1685-6, Wales] to David [1717, PA] to John [ca 1740-1, NC] to James Davis [b 1769, NC]. In 1800 James Davis sold to William Henderson 200 acres left him by LWT of grandfather John Henderson. He sold other land in 1824 and 1825 on McAlpine's Creek.

Archibald Crockett died in 1881 and was buried at Prospect Methodist Church, Chickasaw Co, MS.

Children:

Mary Mariah [12 Jan 1829--March 1829]

Cornelia Ann [22 Jan 1822] m: 12 Sept 1843 Benjamin Hawes (widower with children). Between 1840-1842, the Rev Archie Crockett preached at Hawes School House in Tippah County (Tippah County Heritage, page 147). The only Hawes household in 1840 was that of Benjamin Hawes. He seems to have been then married with children. In 1843 Hawes married Archibald's daughter Cornelia Ann Crockett. The 1850 census shows two children -- Erasmus B. and Ann F. -- by the first marriage. Also there in 1850 was Ann F. Smith, 58, SC, who may have been Benjamin Hawes's first wife's mother. One Archibald Crockett, age 28, born SC, resided with the household as well.

Possibly Archibald. On the 1850 census of Chickasaw Co, MS, Archibald Crockett, age 28, born SC, resided with the household of Benjamin Hawes and wife Cornelia (Crockett) Hawes. However he was not named in the family Bible. He is a bit of a puzzle.

Prudence Jane [16 June 1824 to 06-13-1844] New Hope Cemetery, Tippah Co, MS

4th John Fletcher [6 Sept 1826--living 1900] m1: 20 Feb 1851 Pontotoc Co, MS, Elizabeth B. Saunders. (LDS database) m2: Mary K _____ born Oct 1832, TN. (based on 1900 census).

James Davis [27 March 1830--2 Aug 1896] m: Minnie (Buchanan) (Ayres) [1 Oct 1843--17 March 1912] An obit says J. D. Crockett, buried Ripley Cemetery, died 2 Aug 1896, age 64, which is probably in error for his age.

Hester Monica [2 Jan 1833] m: possibly Thomas Houston. Hester, 37, AL appears as wife of Thomas Houston of NC on 1870 census at Houston PO, Chickasaw Co, MS. There were six children born MS, ages 4 - 15. Also in household was Nancy Houston, age 76, born NC. Before that, Thomas S. Houston, 30, NC, School teacher was listed with Archibald's household in 1850 in Chickasaw Co, MS. "Hester" was then 17.

Elizabeth Angelina [05 May 1835-]

Rachel Louisa [9 Aug 1837--12 Aug 1844] New Hope Cemetery, Tippah Co, MS
