Obituary

ARBUTUS MEDAUGH 1927-2005 LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — Arbutus Medaugh, 78, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., formerly of Van Wert, died at 10:20 a.m. Friday, July 22, at Hospice House North in East Cape Coral, Fla.

She was born April 3, 1927, in Breathitt County, Ky., the daughter of Quillen and Fairlane (Stone) Gayheart. On June 19, 1946, she married Vernon L. Medaugh, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres. She was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, serving as State of Ohio Department commander from 1963-1964. She also was a National Executive Committeewoman member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and participated in VA volunteer services for 10 years at the Fort Wayne Veterans Administration Hospital.

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Smith Dunno of Sullivan, Maine and Deborah (Michael) Baumert of Payne; two half-brothers, Glynn (Sharon) Clemons of Michigan and Minor (Judy) Clemons of Matthews, N.C.; two half-sisters, Bonnie (Norm) Phillips and Angeline (Bill) Ralston, both of Kenton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jason and Brice Smith, and Cory and Derek Baumert; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Lorraine and Michael Hunter Smith. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Luther Gayheart; her parents; and a stepfather, Green Clemons. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at Cowan and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Allen of the St. James Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Ohio City. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, July 27 with a DAV memorial service at 4 p.m. Preferred memorials are to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 9470 Healthcare Park Circle, Ft. Myers, Fla., 33908.
