This is the will of Anthony Bartee Signed 10/27/1792; probate 6/1793

   In the name of God, Amen, I Anthony Bartie of the County of Chowan in the State of North Carolina, being sick and weak in body, but thanks be to the Almighty of a sound and disposing mind and memory, and being well assured that it was appointed for all men once to die, I do therefore recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to be committed to the ground from whence it came that I should be decently interred at the direction of my Execrs, my wish and desire that all my just debts be paid. Item, I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Twenty barrels of Indian Corn, two cows and calves, namly Pedy and Whity, the use of two feather beds and furniture, six chairs one square table, two iron pots, one teakettle, and dutch oven, eighteen earthenware plates, two pewter dishes, one sow [cow?] and calf, two young beefs, one __________ place during her natural life and after her death to be equally devided among all my children.
   Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Dinah one young cow and calf called Tib, my loom and all the furniture thereto belonging, also one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. Also I give unto my Daughter Margaret one fether bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever and my will and desire is that all the rest of my estate be equally devided among all my children and also my desire is that my son, Nathaniel shall have the care of my son Thomas, until he comes to the age of twenty one years, to be learned the business of shoemaking, observing that he is to give him as much schooling as he can with what has pleased God to bless me and to leave him and I do hereby recommend and appoint my son Eli BARTIE and my friend James SET____ my sole execs. to do and act with everything they may think best for my wife and children. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal to this my last will and testiment this 27 day of October in the year of our Lord 1792. Signed, sealed and Delivered in the presence of
