Facts and Events
Ann Conkling was born around June, 1801. According to the cemetery information given by her nephew-in-law,William R. Morris, both she and her sisters, Mary Jane and Harriet were born in New York. Some cemetery records reported by Abner and Mary’s son-in-law, Charles Ross and later by family member William R. Morris suggest that Ann's father and his children may have been born in New York. These records are probably incorrect and are inconsistent with some other records. The listing of New York as a birth place, is probably reflective of the family tradition which pops up in various places that the family had moved to New Jersey from Long Island, New York. Ann married Warren Hartshorne and then as a widow, married Joseph Ross, the brother of her brother-in-law, Captain Charles Ross. Ann died on 1 February 1879 in Burlington, Iowa where she was probably visiting the family of her sister, Elizabeth Whipple. Ann is buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. Her will (dated 20 May 1872) names no children. The largest portion of her estate, which includes properties from both husbands was left to her "beloved sister, Harriet Ross". She also names nieces and nephews, George Whipple, Lizzie A. Blair, George Ross, Charles Ross, Charles Ross, Jr., Fannie, Clara, and Harry Ross, and great-nephews Frederick S. Whipple and Clarence Morris, and great-niece Fannie P. Morris. References
