Facts and Events
Mary Jane Conklin, daughter of Abner and Mary Conkling was born on 20 September 1811. She was probably born in Essex County, New Jersey. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio as a very young child with her family. Mary Jane was the first wife of Captain Charles Clark Ross. She died on 7 August 1833 of puerperal fever, as a result of childbirth and is buried in the Ross family plot at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, with her husband, two sisters, and other family members. The cemetery records were filled out many years after her death and appear to have a number of errors. These record identify, probably in error, her birth place as New York. Captain Charles Clark Ross, husband of Mary Jane Conklin, was the son of Stephen and Mary M. Ross. He was probably born in Pine Grove Township (Warren County), Pennsylvania. Captain Ross was a steamboat captain. In 1870 he and his family lived in the Glendale area of Cincinnati in Springfield Township. He died on 29 July 1890 in Hartwell, Ohio and is buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio with both wives and several other family members. References
