    [Note: the birth is in brackets because "exact information being unavailable", in this case calculated from age at death, except the cited age is 84 based on Providence Gazette, which actually says in 84th year, so using the true meaning of that phrase, i.e., attained age 83, it should be 1726.]
    [Note: on p. 1, the author presents a family tradition that James Fanning "and his future bride, Anne ---, met as children in the ship crossing the ocean". He later concludes he can find nothing to substantiate this and that it cannot even be determined if either husband or wife are immigrants, or descended from families long in New England.]
