[1] The Sheldon Mail, Wednesday, October 24, 1917 . Mrs. G.J. Roorda Severely Burned “Mrs. G.J. Roorda was seriously burned this Thursday noon while At temping to carry from the house a blazing oil stove. At last reports there is very little hopes for her recovery. Mrs. Roorda lighted the oil stove and had gone to another part of the house. Upon her return she discovered the stove ablaze and carried it from the house. In the attempt her clothing caught fire and were almost completely burned from her body. Mrs. Roorda was formerly Miss Angeline Reyne”. The Sheldon Mail, Wednesday, November 7, 1917 . Mrs. G.J. Roorda Passes Away. “This community was saddened Monday afternoon when the news became known that Mrs. Gerrit Roorda, who was severly burned over two weeks ago had passed away. Mrs. Roorda 's condition was considered serious from the first, but later she improved and strong hopes were acertained for her ultimate recovery. The latter part of last week her condition became critical and all hopes of her recovery were abandoned. The end came peacefully at 2:50 o' clock Monday afternoon. Her mother, Mrs.Peter Reyne was at her bedside during all her illness. Her father, who was Called here at the time of the accident, had returned to his home in Bemis, South Dakota, and the message of her failing condition was received by him too late to reach the bedside before the end came. Mrs. Roorda was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at this place, and also a member of the choir at the church. She was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends and acquaintances and will be greatly missed not only in the saddened home but in the church and community. Angelina Reyne, was born in Amsterdam , Holland on August 18, 1897. She came to this country with her parents when ten years of age. She was united in marriage to Gerrit Roorda on August 18, 1917 , in Bemis , South Dakota . She is survived by her young husband, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Reyne of Bemis, South Dakota, and by the following sisters and brother: Misses Mary and Nellie Reyne, and Otto Reyne, all of Bemis, South Dakota. Short funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 o' clock and from the Methodist church at 2:00 o' clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. J.J. Bushnell, pastor of the Methodist church officiated. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery”. References
