Laura Jane Ashton Vail, Jacob Ashton's youngest sister, wrote that Jacob married Angeline "Corp" and that she had a son, William "Corp," prior to their marriage. Angeline's surname is unknown. In the 1880 U.S. Census (Antwerp Village, Paulding County, Ohio), Angeline is listed as the 63-year-old mother of Wiliam H. Corpe, with whom she is living. Her marital status is listed as single. Laura wrote that in Jacob's later years, he married Lizzie Slye. A 27 March 1878 marriage is recorded in Covington, Kentucky, between Jacob Ashton, 57, and Elizabeth J. Sly, 40.
The 1880 census notes that Angeline's father was born in Rhode Island, and her mother was born in New York.
