Facts and Events
An-JEE-lee-ah Oxier. The spelling is clear on the 1910 census. On the 1900 census it is spelled, "Anna." On her son James' birth register it reads Anjely. The last name is spelled as Ockshire on some older records. Angelia had 7 out 8 children living in 1900, and 9 out of 10 children living by 1910. By 1930, only Willard was still living at home. Their granddaughter Freda Harris (Lura's daughter) lived with them. Angelia's death certificate is oddly empty. It shows her father but for mother it says Estep. (Her grandmother was an Estep.) She was 83 years old. Family story is the name Oxier is related to Ouxhiur, a word from the "Wyandot branch" of the Cherokee. (Note - "Wyandot" was a county in Ohio.) It is not vertifable and probably not true, but it sounds good. Family documents and photos on file.
