Page 8, Line 7: Andrew Read(sic), Cordwainder, 2 married persons, 4 single persons for a total of 6 in household. The persons in household are divided as follows: 1 Female under 5 - Clara who would be almost 5 1 Male under 5 - Gilman who would be 2 1 Female 5-16 - Mary Ellen who would be 11 1 Male 5-16 - William Artemus who would be 16 1 Female 21 - 45 - Anne (married) 1 Male 21-45 - Andrew (married) 1 death during previous year - Anna Isabella who died 15 Feb 1861
NOTE: James Richard would have been 18 at the time of census and probably has left home. Grace Lydia, our grandmother, was not born at this time. His family (surname READ) is alone on this lot where the surname of most families is HOWATT (Annie's maiden name). One is listed as native of Ireland (Andrew) and 5 native of Prince Edward Island (Ann and the children). The agricultural census indicated 6 acres of arable land, which yielded 20 bushels of oats, 30 bushels of buckwheat, and 20 bushels of potatoes. Fifty pounds of butter had been made. There were two neat cattle and 7 hogs. Hutchinsons' PEI Directory for 1864, page 184:
"Reid, Andrew - shoemaker Tryon, Lot 28"
The Mercantile Agency Reference Book, Sept 1876 (Location of original unknown) lists:
" Reid, A Tryon, Prince's County General Store Worth credit to $1,000"
The McAlpine Business Directory of 1877 for North Tryon lists: "Andrew Reid - general store
