Recorded by: Mrs. R. D. Banning, Albuerque, NM July 12, 1923. He was educated at the Bedford Normal School, leaving school he enlisted in Co. E 138 Vol. Inf, Aug, 17, 1862, he participated in a number of engagements with the Army of the Potomac, was wounded May 5, 1864, in the Battle of the Wilderness. He was a brave and gallant soldier and was discharged April 22, 1865 after the close of the war. He was a member of the G.A.R. and was elected a Director of the Post in Bedford Co., in 1891, and filled the office with the greatest of credit, was a director of Friends Cove Mutual Fire Insurance Co. He with his family have always lived in or near Charlesville, in Bedford Co., on his farm.
