Information from Cathryn Bates Wilkinson, 2007: Raymond Alva Van Camp was born in St. Thomas, North Dakota. He married Altha Charlotte Walker there in 1922. He farmed and Altha taught school in Pembina. In 1929 they moved to Grafton, and in 1933 to Drayton, ND. They had children Arlene and James.
