Obituary:

Obituary of Allen Chandler Miami, Fla. Aug. 1932, In Memoriam Allen ChandlerDied at his home at Silver Palm, Dade county, Fla. last Tuesday, August 9, 1932.As a friend and admirer, I pause to render a slight tirbute to him. I have known him about 45 years. He lived in the southern part of Osceola county at Fort Bassinger, near the north shores of Lake Okeechobee. His father operated a general merchandise store at Fort Bassinger Allen assisted in and about the store until grown. He moved to Dade county about 23 years ago. He married Miss Ruth Small at Kissimmee, Fla. they had three children, Mrs. Goodloe Wardin,J of Miami, Mrs. Hugh Vihlen of Goulds and Luther Chandler of Silver Palm.He was not only a man of high character, but was a sociable, broad-minded and loyal to his friends. Though modest and unassuming, he was a man of action and of firm determination to do justice to all. I shall do him no injustice when I say he was not a finished scholar; he didi not claim to be. his school privileges were limited, but he became proficient in that volume of business knowledge that was never taught or learned in schools. He was a plain, practical man, in whose home his friends were always welcome. -- He was a devoted husband, affectionate father and a friendly neighbor. He was progressive in other things, but old-fashioned in his religion. He lived his religion and when the time came he was ready to go. He was one of the best woodsmen I have ever known. Many times have I cowhunted with him as well as deer and turkey hunted. My long associations with him will always be a pleasant memory. i admire him because of his splendid courage, his open convictions and his native ability. He loved his home and surroundings, where he lived for neearly 25 years. So it is indeed fitting that he was laid to rest in the Community cmeetery near Silver Palm, surrounded by hundreds of friends and a wilderness of flowerw, there to rest in peace for ever more. His long time friend, John W. Watson Miami, Fl Aug 11, 1932.
