Nevada newspaper article, April 12, 1933

The heart of the community was saddened beynd expression last Thursday evening when the information that Mrs. Alice Hathaway, wife of Homer Hathaway, had suffered a severe stroke of paralysis. Immediately after she was stricken she became unconscious and remained in that condition until her death, which occured at eleven o'clock Monday night. In the sadness that is in every heart, there is a feeling of a community loss in the passing of theis good woman. When the writer of these items came to this community in the year 1898 she found Alice Rutherford, a charming young lady just coming into young womanhood. As memory serves, in a very few years she became the wife of Homer Hathaway. They established a home that has been one of that has exemplified a true American, Christian home. As we, each of us, transversed the paths that ran through the community life, during the long stretch of years, our paths often crossed but in the most part, were parallel, affording the chance to know her life. We do not know just what it will be without this life in the community but we know now that it will be different for something has passed out of the community life that cannot be again. In our loss we hang our heads in sorrow, feeling and knowing our loss. She spent all of her life here, always identified were those things that were for the common good. She was active in church work and being a member of Royal Neighbor Camp here, she was active in the good work of that fraternity. She is survived by her husband, G. H. (Homer) Hathaway, and two daughters, Mrs. C. M. May of the community and Mrs. Tom Wallace of San Antonio, Texas and one brother, James Rutherford, who resides in California. At the time of writing this item, complete funeral arrangements had not been made.
