Mrs. B M Smith Dies in Houston
Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Davis Smith, widow of the late B M Smith, circuit clerk here for 16 years, were conducted from the Houston Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. W A Robinson, Baptist pastor, officiating.
Burial was in the Houston Cemetery with Houston Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers were: Billie Davis, Howard Davis, Fred McIntosh, Buck Davis, J Q Hardin, Herbert Miller, Augustus Davis, Edward Davis, and Raymond Griffin.
Mrs. Smith, a patient at the Houston Hospital for the past two months, succumbed Sunday evening about 6:20. She was 81.
She leaves three sons, , E Bryan Smith of Little Rock, Ark., Joe B Smith of Jackson, Miss., and Col Lon H Smith of Washington, D C; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Coyle and Mrs. A E McIntosh, both of Houston; a brother, John E Davis of Houston, and two granddaughters, Alice Lucile Smith and Jo Ann Smith, both of Washington, D C.
Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 22, 1874, the daughter of the late Reuben Davis who was born in Ala., and Malinda Neal Davis, a native of S. Carolina.
Her husband, the late B M Smith, died Jan. 7, 1947.
All of their children were reared in Houston. Another son, J D Smith, died June 23 1913.
Mrs. Smith of one of this community's most lovable characters, and those who knew her best said that her most outstanding characteristic was her devoted love for her children. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
