BIOGRAPHY: He purchased 79+ acres of land in Sec 4 [E2NE] [Illinois Public Domain Land Tract Sales] on 22 Sep 1839 in Richland Grove Twp., Mercer Co., IL. Dr. Trego & his wife Mercy Ann came to Western Twp., Henry Co. from Richland Grove Twp., Mercer Co. in 1840 according to the book "Hist of Orion, IL - 1953" to locate on 40 acres at the SE1/4 NW1/4, sec 27 in what became Orion and in 1953, Belle Blackfan lived in a home in that same location. There is a record of a purchase of land consisting of 40 acres [SENW] in Sec. 27 of Western Twp. on 18 Apr 1840, confirming the account in the Orion history above. In 1843, the family moved back to Richland Grove and sold the property to Edward Blackfan (RIN-941), and his wife Susan Trego (RIN-858), Blackfan. He was an original member of the LaGrange Lyceum, organized on 17 Dec 1846 in Western Twp., Henry Co., Il. Almost all date and place info for Dr. Alfred and Mercy Ann Fetherby Trego from Susanne Burt Danubio 7-2001. "The Past and Present of Rock Island Co., IL 1877 indicates that "Dr. A. Trego, died Feb. 3, 1876, leaving six children living, and five deceased." However this database currendly contains only 7 of the indicated total of 11 children. Listed as Alfred Trego in 1850 Fed. Census for T15N, R1W, Mercer Co., IL, enumerated on 4 Oct 1850, age 38, b. PA, physician, w/wife + 3 children. Listed as Alfred Trego in 1860 Fed. Census for Coal Valley Twp., Rock Island Co., IL, enumerated on 9 Aug 1860, age 50, b. PA, Physician & Farmer, w/wife & 5 children. Listed as Alfred Trego in 1870 Fed. Census for Coal Valley Twp., Rock Island Co., IL, enumerated on 24 Aug 1870, age 58, b. PA, Physician, w/wife + 4 children. Post Office is Rural. DEATH: According to the Trego book, he died some years prior to 1884 [see Burial note], but his widow lives [1884] in IL. Jeremy Jordan has a copy of his Will, dated 25 Nov 1875 and a Petition For Letters Testamentay, signed by his wife as to date of death of 3 Feb 1876, at Rural, Rock Island Co., not in Orion, Henry Co. as earlier known. They had a farm in R.I. Co. BURIAL: Quaker Cem., Jeremy Jordan has photo of headstone, inscription shows Alfred Trego, M.D., died Feb. 3, 1876 in the 64th year of his age.
