    Alfred M. Cowan was from Blount County, Tennessee and he married his cousin, Margaret Ann Cowan, daughter of Capt. James and Mary Weir (Montgomery) Cowan who lived in Franklin County, Tennessee. They moved with other Cowan and Montgomery relatives to DeSoto County, Mississippi before 1850. Andrew M. Cowan is buried near his mother-in-law, Mary (Montgomery) Cowan in Spring Hill Cemetery.
