    BRISCOE - The death of Mrs. Matilda Augusta (Tillie) Briscoe age 77years, of 309 25th Street W., Saskatoon occurred in a local hospital on January 3rd, 1971. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January8th at 1:30 p.m. from First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. William R. Wood. (In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saskatchewan Heart Fund, 511 Canada Building, Saskatoon would be appreciated). Surviving are: her loving husband, Reuben; a daughter, Mrs. Albert Horner (Joy) of Blaine Lake; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters: Mrs. J. G. Kuehl and Mrs. Samuel Henderson, both of Killaloe, Ontario. She was predeceased by a son, Ted in 1942. Mrs. Briscoe was born in Killaloe and came west to Wiseton where she homesteaded with her husband and continued to farm in the district until 1926. For the past 44 years she had resided in Saskatoon. Mrs. Briscoe was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in Mission Circles. She had been a member of the Walter Murray Chapter of I.O.D.E. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. Saskatoon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Miss Eva Joy Briscoe is Bride of Albert R. Horner
    St. Andrew's Church, Saskatoon, beautifully decorated, was the setting for the wedding of Eva Joy Briscoe to Albert Ralph Horner of Blaine Lake and the late Mr. J. Horner. The Rev. Horace West officiating. The bride, entering the church on the arm of her father, was beautifully attired in a floor-length gown of white sheer and floor-length veil of Tulle. Her bouquet was of pink delight roses and fern. Her only ornament was a string of pearls which had been worn by her mother on her wedding day.

    Mrs. T. B. Johnson was matron of honor wearing a floor-length dress of romance blue sheer, with pink chapel veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of carnations, roses and sweet peas.

    Miss Mae Louise Lundquest, bridesmaid, wore a floor-length gown of primrose yellow, with blue chapel veil held by a coronet of blue flowers. She carried a colonial bouquet of daisies, sweet peas and roses.

    Mr. Lloyd Horner supported the groom, and Messrs. Bev. Goodfellow and Ray Summach were the ushers. During the signing of the register Miss Willa Corcoran sang sweetly, "I'll Walk Beside You." The accompanist was Mrs. Rempel who played the wedding marches and other nuptial music.

    Following the ceremony the reception was held at the bride's home. Receiving with the bridal party were the bride's parents, and the groom’s mother. Mrs. Briscoe wearing a two-piece dress of Persian lilac with purple accessories and corsage of mauve sweet peas and yellow roses. Mrs. Horner chose for the occasion a heavenly blue dress with black accessories and corsage of Talisman roses and pink sweet peas.

    The bride's table was draped with a Chinese linen embroidered cloth and centered with pastel colored sweet peas. The three tiered wedding cake centered the buffet, flanked by bud vases of sweet peas. The Rev. Horace West proposed the toast to the bride, to which the groom made an appropriate reply. Mrs. A. Summach and Mrs. F. Getz, aunts of the bride, presided over the teacups. Mrs. H. D. Sinclair and Mrs. C. Palmer cut the ices. Mrs. Murray Little assisted in looking after the pleasure of the guests and the serviteurs were the Misses Iris Johnson, Gwen Little, Loris Summach and Eileen McCormack. Mrs. B. McCormack was in charge of the guest book. Miss N. M. Land and Miss D. Leard looked after the gift room.

    Following the reception Mr. and Mrs. Horner left by car for Banff, the bride donning a dressmaker suit of aqua wool with British tan accessories and wearing a shoulder knot of Talisman roses.

    Horner Albert Ralph April 26, 1913 January 2, 2009 The life of Albert Ralph Horner, longtime resident of Blaine Lake, came to a peaceful end on January 2. Albert was the oldest son of John Hugh Horner (1927) and Lila May Murphy Horner (1973). Albert was born in Shawville, Quebec on April 26, 1913 and he and his mother returned to the homestead near Blaine Lake six weeks later. He attended school at Greystone and Balmoral, but chose to help on the farm after his father's untimely death. In 1932-33, Albert completed the Vocational Agriculture Program at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1944, he married Joy Briscoe of Saskatoon, who was teaching in Blaine Lake at the time. In 1945, Albert was elected Reeve of the Municipality, a position he held until 1956. He was a director of the Blaine Lake Co-operative Rink Association which was formed in 1953. In 1955, he became President of the Hockey Committee and from 1954 to 1958, was Manager of the Blaine Lake Imperial Senior Hockey team. He was a member of the Wheat Pool Committee from 1932 to1958. He was elected Wheat Pool Delegate in 1957. That same year, he was approached by the Rt Hon. John Diefenbaker to be a candidate in the federal constituency of The Battlefords . He was elected in 1958 and was the Member of Parliament for The Battlefords until 1968 when the constituency was redistributed. One of Albert's highlights as an MP was a trip he made to Poland as a representative of the Canadian government. Albert was also a member of the Blaine Lake Optimist club which was formed in 1969. Albert received the Volunteer Recognition Award from the North Central Regional Recreation Association in 1994 and the Lifetime Community Contribution Award from the Blaine Lake and District Chamber of Commerce in 2002. Besides farming, Albert built up a herd of registered Aberdeen Angus cattle and began raising his beloved black Clydesdale horses. He exhibited both at provincial fairs and with his friend, Doug Charles, won first prize for the six -horse team at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Albert was a long time member of the Saskatchewan Horse Breeders Association, the Aberdeen Angus Association, and the Saskatchewan Clydesdale Association. He was awarded the Saskatchewan Livestock Association Scroll of Honor in 1985. One of Albert’s horses became part of the heavy horse hitch for Budweiser's and another horse was part of the hitch for Potter's Brewery. Albert's last registered foul, Silver's Lady Oakwood's Joy, was born in 2008. In his later years, Albert became a judge of heavy horses at many exhibitions. He attended the Prince Albert Fair for 53 consecutive years. Albert was predeceased by his wife Joy (2003), his only son, John (1992) his brother Lloyd, sister in law, Helene and nephew Wayne. He is lovingly remembered by his four daughters and their husbands; <names of living individuals have been removed>. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews. Albert had a wonderful time greeting his friends at his 95th Birthday Celebration in 2008. He lived a rich, full life and was a fan of the Vancouver Canucks, the Toronto Blue Jays and was staunch supporter of the Canadian Wheat Board until the very end. Albert had a great many friends and was respected and well loved by those who crossed his path. The family appreciates the many wonderful friends who enriched Dad's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders (MSF Canada, #402-720 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, ON. M5S 2T9), one of Albert's many charities. The Service to celebrate Albert’s life will take place on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. from Acadia Drive Funeral Chapel, 915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon. Officiating will be Pastor Gerry Epp. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Nicole Whiteside of ACADIAMCKAGUE'S FUNERAL CENTRE, 955-1600.
