Settled in Caney Fork-present day Jackson Co.while it was still Cherokee territory. Lived in Wilkes Co. for awhile then Table Rock, SC then back to NC. Liked by indians; called him "Steke Santons" - "Little Keg" because he was little in statue. Lived among the Cherokees. Rev. War - battles at Sullivan's Island, Savannah (hit by musket ball in right arm), Charleston (wounded left thigh), prisoner - escaped and fled to GA, captured, released 5 days later, joined GA unit.
