From a found article from what appears to be an Alvinston newspaper (this article includes the section from the Florida paper):

The Late Abner Shortt

Word was received here on Wednesday that Mr. Abner Shortt had died in Florida.

Deceased was well known in the townshi of Brooke and community, having resided in the township for practically all his life. He cleared the fine farm on which his son, John, now resides, he retiring several years ago. During the past few years he has been making his home in Florida, returning to Alvinston each year for a visit. The illness, which proved fatal, came on suddenly, an operation being necessary, he never recovering from the effects. The remains will not arrive here for interment until about Saturday of this week, a misunderstanding in Florida being the cause of the remains being held. However they were shipped on Monday and the funeral will be held the latter part of this week.

Mr. Shortt had a large circle of friends in this community, who extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. Mrs. Shortt pre-deceased him several years ago.

The following is a clipping from a Florida paper: Abiner Ruth Shortt, 57, retired farmer and builder of this city, died on Wednesday after a short illness. He was a native of Canada but had been a resident of Jacksonville for about five years. He is survived by five children - Mrs. Viola Thompson, of Detroit; Mrs. James Spearman, John Shortt and Russell Shortt of Brooke township, Canada; and Fred of Detroit. He is also survived by two sisters and four brothers, Mrs. J.A. Macaulay of Daytona Beach; Mrs. Jennie Witty, who resides in Canada; John of Chicago; Clifford and James of Canada, and Alexander of Port Huron, Mich.
