Facts and Events
Many Bradford genealogies (Source:Cutter, William Richard. New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial, p. 4:2264, NEHGR, p. 4:47, "A Genealogy of the Bradford Family" by G.M.Fessenden) state that Abigail m. Gideon Sampson. These are probably all ultimately based on Source:Mitchell, Nahum. History of the Early Settlement of Bridgewater, in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, p. 407, which says "There was a Gideon Sampson who m. Abigail, D. of Maj. John Bradford, soon after 1700; she left no children." It is not clear what this assertion is based on. The other camp (which includes Source:Wakefield, Robert S. William Bradford of the Mayflower and His Descendants for Four Generations) believes Abigail is the one referred to by MD, p. 16:63, "Plymouth, Mass., Vital Records": Abigail Bradford deceased on the 4th of May 1697. It is worth noting that the will of Major John Bradford of Kingston, dated 2 Oct 1732, did not mention his daughter Abigail. References
