Sketch

James and Thomas Harris were Traders in Lancaster County before 1730. The former had his trading post near James Le Tort's, about two miles west of what is now Maytown. The latter established himself on Conewago Creek, where the Conestoga and Paxtang path crossed. He became one of the wealthiest of the Traders. Before the Revolution he removed to Harford County, Maryland, and from thence to Baltimore. Some of his sons served as officers in the Revolutionary army. James Hamilton, of Leacock Township, was also a Trader on Conewago Creek; and extended his operations to the Ohio.
