There were two distinct Lee families in Colonial Virginia, neither of which is known to connect to the armorial family of the same name who lived at Langley-Coton Hall in Shropshire, England. One descended from John Lee of Nansemond County, the other from Richard Lee of Northumberland County. For a detailed accounting of both, see:
