On page 201, Volume 1, Number 3 of his Notes and Queries[1], William Egle makes an outline of the Walker family of Central Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, primary sources indicate it is riddled with a large number of mixups and errors:

Different YDNA Groups

He claims that a James Walker and a Robert Walker fought at the seige of Londonderry[2], and James had the following children:

i. Samuel
ii. Robert
iii. James m. Margaret
iv. William m. Mary with children John, Thomas, William, Samuel
v. Henry
vi. Andrew

Probate[3] and land records[4] prove that James, William, and Henry did exist and settle in Pennsylvania. James and Henry were on Swatera Creek, and William moved to Lurgan Township. However, no primary documents suggest that the other three (Robert, Samuel, and Andrew) even existed. Furthermore, YDNA shows that these men were not related. The vetted children for ii. Robert (assuming he existed at all) match into Group 33, while William Walker of East Pennsboro actually matches into another line, YDNA Group 14. Furthermore, there exist many hints that iii, James and v. Henry of Lancaster match into a third YDNA Group 5[5]

Misattributed Individuals

Egle often convolves separate Walkers with the same name:

Thomas (iv. William) m. Jane Ralson, of the Big Spring Settlement.

In reality, after his father was killed at McCormick's Fort, Thomas left for Bedminster, New Jersey and married Rebecca Barkley[7][8]

William m. Elizabeth Hoge (ii. Robert)

This is the William of East Pennsboro who is not related at all to the James who married Elizabeth. The actual brother of James is William of Hogan's Creek who later moved to North Carolina.

John (ii.Robert, James) m. Isabella McCormick

This John[9] is the son of William of East Pennsboro and Elizabeth Hoge, not of the James who married Elizabeth

Samuel (ii.Robert, James) 2nd Lieut. of Third Co, commanded by Capt Noah Abraham.

This is the Samuel Walker[10], son of Alexander Walker. The Samuel Walker of James moved to North Carolina with no evidence of participation in the military.

Robert (ii. Robert, James) in Capt. Noam Abrahams Cumberland County Associators.

This is Robert Walker[11], son of Alexander Walker. The Robert Walker of James fought under another commander, Patrick Jack[12]

  2. This may be true. There is a Robert Walker on the defenders of Derry list, "Derry and Enniskillen in the Year 1689: The Story of Some Famous Battle-Fields in Ulster" by Thomas Witherow, D.D. Derry Address to King William 29th Day of July, 1689 p 364. However, there is no evidence they came to America or are even related to any of their supposed children.
