Family talk:Unknown Keys and Unknown (1)

Study of Roger and John Keys [17 July 2014]

I am descended from John Keys and have had my DNA examined through the Genographic Project, YSEQ, and MyFamilyDNA. Also in MyFamilyDNA an unnamed donor who claims descendance from Roger also had his DNA examined. We are not matches with each other. Of course it is possible one or both of us is wrong about our lineage, and there are in fact weak spots in the history of my line. Another possibility is that Roger and John were not in fact related but yet were very close in kinship. In the Wilson Lewis family history, which I have yet to locate, it is reportedly stated that John Keys was a relative of Ephraim McDowell, with whom we are believed to have emigrated from Ireland ca 1729, and with whose Augusta property Roger's was adjacent. It is but one hypothesis. I suspect there was an adoptive or foster relationship of some kind involved. At any rate I am Scots Modal in my Y DNA, as is the Roger donor, which comports to the oral history in my family concerning the origins of Roger and John. I have attempted to contact the Roger donor through YSearch but there has been no response to date.--greenshrink 21:53, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

New information: administrators at MyFamilyDNA Keys Project now think there is some possibility of a match with the Roger donor. So a direct relationship between Roger and John is not yet fully ruled out.--greenshrink 20:57, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
