Family talk:John Frazier and Jennet Hooke (1)

I believe there two different John Fraziers in the same generation in that area of Virginia. The Fraziers all named their sons James, William, John, Samuel, etc. I believe the two Johns are cousins.

My sources: Chalkeys Chronicles, which contains the court records of Augusta, Va.

Page 318 is the will of John Frazer of Rockingham Co, dated 6 June 1781. It names his wife Jennet, brother George, sister Molly Galloway, brother William, nephew Andrew Shanklin as son of sister Molly. It names James Hooke as his wife Jennett's brother.

Page 328 is the will of Robert Allen, dated 17 September, 1785. It names his daughter Ann Frazier.

Page 179 is the will of John Finley, dated 6 July 1807. It names his daughter Jinny Frasor.

Page 140 is the will of Ann McCune, dated 22 November, 1805. It names James Frazer and his wife Ann.

Page 368 is the will of James Frazier, dated 19 June 1810. It names brother Samuel Frazier's children as John W, James, Samuel C and Bella (probably Isabella.)

Page 276, The will of John Frazier, 24 May 1809, names nephew Samuel C Frazier, son of deceased brother Samuel, brother James and to nephews John W. Frazier and James Frazier. (John Watkins is my ancestor. He married Margaret Paul in 24 May 1803, per Augusta Co marriage records. Online family trees show Margaret as daughter of Audley Paul. I don't feel this is verified. Margaret Paul was born 01 Aug 1782, which was after Margaret Paul, daughter of Audley, married John Walker of Rockbridge Va in 1780. Did Audley have two daughters named Margaret?)

The will of John Gay of Rockbridge, Sept. 26, 1780, going to war, has John Frazer and Henry Gay as Test.

John & Ann Frazier vs Rebecca Ledgerwood, Rebecca Berry and Esther Corruthers, Chancery, 16 April 1787 appears to show Robert Moody as under 60 years old when he died, as testimony was given that a person had known him since he was born, 58 or 59 years.

A James Frazier b 1723, married in 1740, Warrington MM (Quaker) Lancaster Co, Pa, Rebecca Cox, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Fincher Cox.

Another John Frazier of Va, (signing as Frazer) made his will on April 20, 1806, in the district of New Madrid Territy of Louisiana (Missouri), and it was proved before the local probate court on the following June 25th. It names his wife Margaret, and his children William, Daniel, Jane, Rebecca and Hannah Frazier. (Another John Frazier has his Johns confused, because he is claiming this John was married to Rebecca Story and had a son named Thomas.) During this probate, William Frazier was made executor, although no testimony was given that wife Margaret was deceased. And, William sold John's land.

Marriage Records of Va, as found online, show the marriages of: Isabella Hillanah Moody Frazier, A widow, and James Paul, a widower, 20 July 1801, Augusta Patsy Gillespy and James Frazier 23 Feb 1802, Bath Co Patsey Rankin and James A Frazier, 12 Feb 1809, Augusta Polly Fitzpatrick and James Frazier, 3 Nov 1814, Augusta

It appears to me the James, Johns, Williams and Samuel Fraziers are all mixed up my researchers. On the 1810 Augusta Co Va census, the following Fraziers are listed: James, James Jr, William and John W. Some of the Fraziers had moved to Mason Co WV by then.

Re Samuel Moody: on genealogytrails.com/vir/deaths.html: Samuel Moody and another white man going a ducking in a very small canoe in Moorcock Creek by Chickamoniny Ferry, were upset and drowned the 15th instant 1737.--Csb5100 14:24, 21 March 2010 (EDT)

19 March 1766: Patrick Frazier and Mary to John Fraizer, his son [3 April 2010]

Patrick and Mary Fraizer appear to be the parents of the John Fraizer who married Jennet Hook.

Robert Hook witnessed Patrick Frazier's purchase of the Land from Bomgardner 29 Aug 1750. Then, in 1766 Patrick and Mary gave part of their land to their son, John Fraizer.--Csb5100 15:13, 25 March 2010 (EDT)

James, Samuel and Henry appear to be the names of Jennet Gay and John Frazier's children, according to the will of Henry Gay (names James) and Martha Gay (names Henry and Samuel.) Henry and Martha were the parents of Jennet Gay. Thus, they likely are not the names of the children of John Frazier and Jennet Hooke. I read one Hooke history that said John F and Jennet Hooke had no children, but I don't know if that is accurate, short of court records.--Csb5100 14:04, 3 April 2010 (EDT)
