Family talk:James Leonard and Jane Martin (1)

Two Wives? [12 July 2010]

The wife on this page is named "Mary (Margaret) Martin" but this is probably a combination of two wives.

Source:Rounds, H. L. Peter. Abstracts of Bristol County, Massachusetts Probate Records, p. 23: Will of Margaret Leonard of Taun., widow, about the 68th year of her age, dated 12 Nov 1700, proved 9 Apr 1701, mentions Son in law Uriah Leonard's wife Elizebeth & his daughter Margaret, daughter in law Hanah Deane & her daughter Abigail Terry, son in law James Leonard's daughters Abigail & Prudence Lewis, son in law Thomas Leonard's daughters Elizebeth & Joanah, cousin Eleazer Carver to be executor.

That all the children in this family are call in laws indicates they are step-children, so Margaret was the second wife, and not the mother of James' children. --Jrich 00:14, 13 July 2010 (EDT)

The pages have since been changed to show 2 wives - the first of which was apparently Jane, not Mary.--DataAnalyst 22:04, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
