Richard Cobb & Esther Bates were married by Saml Sewall Esq. Assist., Sept. 16.
- ↑ Only the first and last child have births recorded. No probate is noted in the sources available to name heirs. The son John is not included by Source:History of the Town of Hingham, Massachusetts, but is, with a question mark, by the Source:Mayflower Descendant article of 2000 (p. 49:101) which seems a little more thorough. Yet the basis for John's inclusion (presumably influenced by his naming his eldest son Richard), or some of the various estimates is unclear (John's birth estimate is informed by his age at death, but Esther's seems simply copied from older sources that did not have all the children). The article includes a child of "Mr. Cob" who died 1701. Was this child unnamed or an earlier child whose name is simply not given? If such a death is included, it undoubtedly requires some adjustment of the traditional birth estimates. Is the last child Abiah or Obadiah? One would expect other children, easily 2, perhaps 3, born between 1701 and 1709.
