Children
This family is a little complicated. It is well established that Maj. Thomas Roy Miller (1761-1834) married a Buckner and that they had at least two children, who were Richard's grandchildren, by the time Richard wrote his will in 1793. Information from the Miller family (Genealogies of Virginia Families: From Tyler's Quarterly Historical and Genealogical Magazine, Volume 1, p. 169) has it that the wife was Sarah "Sally" Attaway Buckner, daughter of Ariss. However, since Ariss was born in 1771, it is extremely unlikely that he had grandchildren by 1793, when he was 22. Thomas Roy Miller's wife must therefore have been Ariss' sister. Crozier (p. 128) indicates that this sister was named "Eliza Ariss Buckner" and that Sarah Ataway Miller was instead her daughter; given that Crozier's information is far more plausible than the alternative, it has to be given preference. |
