Reuben Bridge Buckman and Juliana Castle married February 20, 1818 in Georgia, Franklin Co, Vermont. Their first child Seth Castle Buckman was born there. By the end of 1820, Reuben and Julia moved to Clinton Co, New York where daughter Diana was born. Within a couple years they moved on to Morristown, St. Lawrence Co, New York where Solon, Julia, Guy, George, Jane and Philo were born between 1826 and 1834. Frederick, Harry and Daniel were the last of their eleven children, born in Hammond, Rossie and Lisbon.

Reuben, Julia and their children lived in Western New York for 30 years. However, this was about to change. Their son, Solon Tobias Buckman, moved west to Wisconsin and soon married Adelaide Machen in Janesville, Rock Co, Wisconsin on November 28, 1848. Solon must have sent glowing reports back home. By the 1850 census, Guy Jackson Buckman had joined his brother in La Prairie, Rock Co, Wisconsin. With two sons proclaiming the wonders to be found in Wisconsin, in 1855 the Buckman family decided to follow the migration trail. Guy returned to New York long enough to get married. All but one of their children made the trek to Dunkirk, Dane Co, Wisconsin. George Adams Buckman and his wife Mary Ann remained behind.
