[Note: 13 children named (only 12 are correct), not counting Mercy Oliver. It is not clear why the statement about Mercy Oliver, who is not identified, is deemed significant to mention, as the mother did not remarry, and there is (surprisingly) no evidence of a daughter named Mercy/Marcy/Mary. She appears to be an unrelated person.]

  3. Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Whitney: The Descendants of John Whitney, p. 43, mistakenly identifies the son Ebenezer as Dr. Ebenezer Whitney of Worcester. This is an error, as can be seen from the information on the real Dr. Whitney's page. Obviously there was son Ebenezer, but he was not Dr. Ebenezer Whitney of Worcester. Currently, his outcome is unknown. Also, as a result of this error, Pierce also added a son Israel Whitney that did not belong in this family, since Dr. Ebenezer Whitney's estate was administered by his brother Israel. Dr. Ebenezer Whitney and his brother Israel belonged to a different family.
