French expatriates in London were sought out by businessmen with land holdings in the colonies of Virginia and Carolina in the late 1680's and 1690's with offers of provisions to get the French Huguenots to settle there . A bounty award dated Sept 8 1687 reads "To Lewis Reynaud of Angoumois , his wife and eight children for tools and other necessities things to go to Virginia" granted 8 pounds . On September 22 1695 Lewis and his wife Anne attended the baptism of Anne Flahaut at Cantebury and they may have remained there as no further record of them in the colonies can be found . |
