1. JOHN5 YOUNG (ANDREW LAMONT4, JOHN3 LAMONT, SIR, GILBERT2, JOHN OR MCGORRIE1) was born WFT Est. 1665-1676 in County Antrim, Ireland, and died 1747 in Augusta County, Virginia. Persons of the same surname and similar age in the Carmony Church Records in co. Antrim were: James, Robert, Matthew, Charles and William. He is probably the John who was in a typo error in Chalkley with the following record: Page 219.--17th March, 1707. Robert Young and Mary to John Young, both of Forks of James River, 5 shillings, 112 acres in Forks of James. Delivered John Young, March, 1776. Both Sharon Jebavy and I suspect this was an 1747 deed though this is obviously conjecture. There is an unexplained John in the Court records in Augusta Co., VA who dies in 1747. His administrator was his brother, James who died before he could take care of John's estate. His surities were placed by Robert Young and Partte Martin. It is probable that this is the same John as listed here, and that he moved to the colonies with some of his adult sons. If so, then James is a proven sibling from the statement of same in John's administration with Robert being John's son. (CL-541) Here are the references to it as stated in Chalkley: June 17, 1747. A pattern that also supports this John coming to the Virginia with his sons is the fact that his son Robert inherited his 234 acres of land and then passed it down to his son John. Robert also forcibly and violently took John's property from the sheriff after his death. He was "unhappy" with how his estate was being settled. There was a William Young living in Augusta County that was born shortly after the year 1702 according to the following entry in Chalkley who might be a brother or nephew of this John. Children of John Young (Andrew Lamont Young, John Lamont, Gilbert Lamont) and Annie Houston Young: 4. Robert Young b. 1711 County Antrim, m. Agnes Crockett, b. 1715 County Antrim, Northern Ireland, by @ 1730 in County Antrim, and migrated to America with wife and three sons, James, Samuel and John, in 1740, entering at Philadelphia and migrating down into Augusta Co., VA, settling on Back Creek on the north fork of the James River, a few miles west of Staunton. Robert died in Augusta Co., VA in 1762 and Agnes bought land in what would become Laurens Co., SC in 1766. the last reference for Agnes in Chalkley is for 1770. At some point after 1770, Agnes and five or six of her sons migrated to Laurens Co., SC. 5. Hugh Young b. County Antrim, m. his cousin Agnes Sitlington in County Antrim and migrated to America in 1741. Settling next to his brother Robert in Augusta Co., VA. Hugh and Agnes lived and died in Augusta and are presumed burried in the Glebe Cemetery next to Hebron Presbyterian Church at Staunton where their son John and both of his wives are buried. Hugh and Agnes Sitlington Young had three children: 5.1. John b. County Antrim, Northern Ireland March 25, 1737, d. Augusta Co., VA December 5, 1824 became Capt. John Young, aid to Gen. George Washington and ancestor to Senator John McCain. John was married 1) Mary White, daughter of Isaac White, his cousin, and they had six children: Jane who m. a Cunningham, Isaac who never married and had no issue, Hugh, David who m. Mary Ann Hart and became ancestor of Senator John McCain, Thomas who m. Mary Caldwell and had one daughter who m. a Sterrett and John W.; and Capt John m. 2) Mary Sitlington and had ten children: William Sitlington Young, Mary who m. a Kich, Andrew who never married, Agnes, Robert, Elisha I who d. in infancy, Margaret called Peggy who m. William A. Young and had a son John E. Young, Elisha II who m. Strudwick and daughter was Agnes Black Young, Jenny and Alexander St. Clair Young. 5.2. Thomas, killed by Indians and scalped in the battle of Kerr's Creek when he was a young man in 1763, unmarried and left no issue. 5.3. Mary m. John Cartmill, Augusta Co., VA, nothing further is known about Mary or her descendants. 6. Jane Young b. County Antrim and migrated to America, to Augusta Co., VA. Married 1) Patrick Cook and had children Mary (who married William Deane) and John who was killed at North Mountain when young. Patrick died and Jane married 2) to Andrew Steel, having one known child, Andrew Steel Jr. 7. William Young b. County Antrim and migrated to America at an early but unknown date, did not stay long in Augusta Co., VA, but migrated to Albemarle Co. and lived for many years before living in NC for a time before migrating to KY before 1777, when KY was still dangerous Indian territory and everyone lived in a fort or station. William died in 1818 in KY and was reportedly married three times. Only the first name of his third wife, Mary, is known at this time. William was a Revolutionary War soldier who may have served only in the forts/stations of the KY frontier or may have served in NC. He is listed as a member of Capt. Boyle's Company, out of Logan's Fort, and stationed at forts along Dick's River in Lincoln Co. A Col. Young is later identified in a Draper interview with Mrs. Arnold as being at Craig's Station. In the Fall of 1783, all the inhabitants of Craig's Station went to Gilbert's Creek Station, including the William Young family. All remained at Gilbert's Creek Station except Capt. John Craig. William claimed two 400 acre land grants on Gilbert's Creek, one was denied, probably having had a valid claim by someone else. To get the grant he received, he had to have been in KY after January 1778 and before October 1779. There is a Chalkley court reference dated 1779, listing, among many others, both William Young and William Hughes, who would become William Young's son Thomas' father-in-law, as delinquent on their taxes because they have "gone to Kentucky." This delinquent tax list was for 1777 or 1778, making their trip to KY fall into the time frame in which son Thomas was born. He was probably born shortly after their arrival in KY, most likely at Logan's Fort. 8. John Young b. County Antrim, m. Elizabeth (Unknown), migrated to America in 1737 and settled in Augusta Co., VA. For further detail on this family see John Young Family. 9. James Young b. County Antrim, son William. 10. Sarah/Sally Young b. 1695 County Antrim, m. William Curry in Ireland. (I have more info not posted yet on this family.) (Possibly others.)

General Notes: He and his wife (a cousin of his) immigrated to America in 1741. He lived near his brother, Robert, in Augusta Co., VA where they lived out the rest of their lives. They had 3 children. Their son Thomas was killed as a teenager at the Battle of Kerr's Creek. Their daughter, Mary, married John Cartmill. Their son John was an aid to General Washington and was an ancestor to our current day Senator, John McCain. He received a patent for his 200 acres of land in Beverly Manor (later to become Augusta Co., VA) in 1746, three years before his brothers obtained land.... and at least one more piece of land at the same time as brothers Robert and James. Here are some of the records that pertain to a Hugh in Chalkelys. The ones from 1755 forward might belong to a different Hugh Young. Page 109.--15th February, 1748. Deposition James McClery, taken in Fayette County, Kentucky, third Monday June, 1798: In the Spring of 1742 he settled in Augusta County within 3 miles of lands in dispute. He lived in Augusta until October, 1785. Deposition before Samuel Blair, J. P., J. Bell, Elij Poage, George Trotter. John Brownlee deposes in Augusta, 3d July, 1798, that he has lived where he now lives since 1st November, 1740; he has always been a member of that society, and is nearly related to John Moffett, the defendant. John Tate also deposes that he has lived where he now lives for 53 years in October last, and had been acquainted with the lands for two years before he came to live in the neighborhood. Captain Samuel McPheeters deposes at same time that he has lived in and near where he now lives since 1741. Mathew Wilson deposes at same time that he has lived near where he now lives 60 years. John Young lived on the plantation 55 years ago and upwards. If children die in infancy, care to be taken to find the nearest blood relations, and, in their default, then the estate to be given in care to the Presbytery of New Castle to be laid out in pious uses and to support the gospel here. Notes for ROBERT YOUNG, SR.:
General Notes: Robert and his wife had multiple sons whose names have been researched. They had at least 2 daughters. (CL-468) They emigrated from Ireland to Philadelphia about 1736 or 1737 as verified in court records in Orange Co., Virginia dated Jun 26, 1740 to verify their transportation. Robert, Agness, John, Samuel and James were listed in this document. In VA, proof of transportation was required when buying land. Robert is in a list of the earliest settlers of Beverley Manor where he purchased 373 acres on Jun 7, 1742. He had several land purchases in fact. Four hundred acres at the head of north branch of Buffalo Creek, bordering on Borden's land was purchased in 1747 from William McMachan, Gentleman of Fredrick Co. He purchased two tracts in Beverly Manor where he resided, 234 and 530 acres respectively on Feb 27, 1749 for which he received Patents in that same year. It should be noted that there were several Roberts and at least 2 Robert Sr.'s in Augusta Co, VA at the same time as this Robert Sr. and some of the facts below could belong to them instead. The other Robert Sr. lived on the Forks off James River by 1755. According to Robert Frey he is the Robert who had two indentured servants, William Sanford and Margaret McGaffey. Margaret filed a complaint against her "white haired" master in the 1740's. If accurate, then he is the following Robert in Chalkley: "page 29 Robert Young, white haired, (April, 1745/6), Chancery suit vs. Borden". In that same record there is a 2nd Robert Young delineated who lived near the Courthouse. There is a third Robert listed who lived on the North Forks (which is the other Robert Sr. who moved with his family to Tennessee sometime after 1776. These were all from a list of Clerk records where Merchants listed distinguishing characteristics of their patrons. He was a part of Richard Wood's Co. in the militia in 1745 and 1746. He was named Constable in that same time period. That meant that he would hear minor cases in business and conduct in the courts. He gained the position of "Captain, Troop of Horse" for the militia on Aug. 21, 1752. Robert entered into a bond with Hugh Spier of Orange Co. in Aug., 1740, but something was amiss as Mr. Spier sued him over it in 1754 and 1756. On Mar. 18th, 1755, he divided his homestead at Beverley Manor between his sons. One hundred and fifty acres including his home went to James, 105 to Robert Jr., and 295 to Samuel. He divided all his personal estate to sons William, Hugh, and Joseph. It appears that his father, John, living in Augusta Co. who died a few years before this whose estate was still being settled on Apr. 28, 1756, "by virtue of an execution vs. the estate of John Young," the Constable seized the goods of John Young and filed a complaint against Robert and Agness who by "violent force" had taken and rescued it from the constable. In Chalkley he might have been the following Robert: Page 160.-- (1757?) Robert Young and James Davis, on north east side of Buffelow Creek and up the North River to the Mountain. This record in Chalkley could apply to this Robert Young and his sons. Page 290.--1760: Processioned by _____ ? _____: For Robert Hamilton, ... for Robert Young, for James Young, for Samuel Young, for Hugh Young ... According to Chalkley, our Robert Sr. died in 1662. This is supported by Orphans court records. On May 20, 1762, Robert Young, age 18, son and orphan of Robert Young, chose (brother) James Young to be his guardian. The next day, James became his official guardian when he, brother Samuel and Joseph Hannett gave bond to the court. James also took guardianship of two other brothers, William and Hugh, on Aug 21, 1764. This time bond was given by James with his brother John and a second John Young ?, Robert Young and John Kirkpatrick. Agness is listed as the late wife of Robert Young in a May 28, 1765 court case vs. John Brown for Writ of dower. In Oct 1769, she released her dower in order that her son James could sell some land. Agness died sometime after Jun 20, 1770 when the case against John Brown was dropped because of his death. (CL-468) According to Sharon Young Jebavy, she and five or six of her sons removed to Laurens Co., South Carolina after this last written record found about her. (CL-541) 5 6

I say this for the following reasons. John and Annie's son James was likely born after 1711 and could easily could have lived until 1793 when my James Young's will was probated. He would have been an appropriate age to be a grandparent to the large number of grandchildren he names. When his possible nephew through brother John, Robert Young died and left a will in 1793, he names George Glenn, husband of Mary Young (James' son-in-law and Robert's probable cousin-in-law) as his executor. Lastly, he is the only James not accounted for in this time period that fits my James Young. Persons listed in my Jame's young's will in Augusta Co., VA, Will Book VII, pg. 292, are in this abstract by Dr. Robert Frey. "16 Nov 1790: To Agnes Miller, wife to Wert Miller, daughter to George Glenn; to James Glenn, son to George Glenn; to William Glenn, son to George Glenn; to Sarah Glenn, daughter to George Glenn; to Martha Glenn, daughter to George Glenn; to Hugh Glenn, son to George Glenn; to Mary Glenn, daughter to George Glenn, infant; to Margaret, Esther, Elizabeth, Martha, John, James, William Bing, children to John Bing; to son-in-law George Glenn, to son-in-law John Bing, executors. Teste: Robert Young, Jr (probable nephew).; Robert Young, Sr. (probable brother); Sarah Young (Sister in law, daughter or grandaughter?). Proved 21st December 1790, by all witnesses. George Glenn and Wm. Young (possible brother) qualified." James Young apparently only bequethed items to grandchildren of two daughters. (CL-185) (Note that these Glenn grandchildren are listed in the indentical order in Hugh Glenn's family bible and that Mary was simply underage 21 at the time.) (CL-185) It's possible that James only had 2 daughters who made it to adulthood and that his wife had died by the time he wrote his will. According to "Augusta County Heritage Book" he died on Dec. 21, 1790 and was in the American Revolution as stated on his gravesite. If he is the James who is the son of John and Annie Young, then he obtained a patent for 436 acres of land in 1749 in Beverly Manor (later to become Augusta Co., VA) as do his brothers. Their land is adjacent to each other. James borders on Robert Young's land, to the north, Patrick Martin's to the east, Jacob Lockhart to the south, and William Vance to the west. He appears to fit the James Young who had a mill as he is listed with his brothers and neighbors below when a road is being built connecting James Young's mill to Richey's Smith Shop to Buchannan's Mills which is south and slightly east of his property. The following records from Chalkley might apply to this James or possibly to the James who was a brother to the original John Young who died in 1741. Another was married to Mary McCombe and died in 1805. Ones starred definitely apply to the James who owned land in Beverly Manor by 1749.

Samuel was of very poor intellect and quite an idiot. Joseph died and left will dated 11th September, 1757, wherein he gave a part of his land "The Welch Cabin" unto Samuel. They did have a daughter Rebeckah, but she was apparently born much later, perhaps in 1750.

Antrim, IRE 2 Marriage: Mary UNKNOWN Died: 1818, , , KY, USA General Notes: This is the ancestor of Sharon Young Jebavy. He was married 3 times. His last wife's name was Mary according to Sharon Jebavy. A Chalkley record dated 1779 that said both William Young and William Hughes (his father-in-law) were delinquent in their tithables because they had "...gone to KY." He moved to Lincoln Co., KY by 1777 where he lived the rest of his life. This part of Lincoln Co., KY later became Garrard Co., KY. William Young was at Logan's Fort. He was with Capt. Boyle's Company that was dispatched to forts along Dick's River in Lincoln Co., KY. Col. Young had also been at Craig's Station. In the Fall of 1783, everyone from Craig's Station left there and went to the Gilbert's Creek Station, including the William Young family. Almost everyone stayed at Gilbert's Creek. William got land grants in Lincoln Co., KY in 1783 that required him and verified that he had been in Kentucky from Jan. 1778 to Oct. 1779. The following records from Chalkley might apply to him, but there appear to be several Williams in Augusta Co., VA. Page 61.--21st August, 1754.
