Notes

Conflicting records as to whether John King married a "Sarah Adams" or "Sarah Addair" exist in Virginia marriage records. In searching Montgomery County, Virginia records for the "James Addims" or "James Addair" who provided surety for the marriage of John King and his wife Sarah appears to lean more towards a James Addair, Sr. who first appeared on the New River as a tithable in 1773, being listed in Trigg’s Company. He appears to have lived on the West Side of the New River, near present Radford, probably from the time of his arrival in the community. The Commissioner’s certificates however show that he settled first on 200 acres of land on the east river in 1772, and the surveys show an additional tract of 86 acres under the loyal Company which was surveyed in 1775 (Kegley, tithables, p. 25; Montgomery County Survey Books A, p. 215; C, p. 51; D, p. 144).

There are other records supporting this James Addair as living in Montgomery County, Virginia during the time that his likely daughter Sarah would have been born.

Additional research may be needed to prove this suspected relationship.
