No marriage for John French on 3 Dec 1709 is found in Newbury, MA.

That leaves the choice: does this intend to refer to the marriage

John French and Sarah Noyes on 6 Jan 1708 in Newbury Newbury VRs 2:184

or John French and "Elisabeth Scutt" 8 Dec 1709 in Hampton, NH (Hampton VRs 2:39, and again on 2:449 as "Elizabeth Scot")

Assuming the second based on Elizabeth Swett's birth and residence there. No marriage for Elizabeth Swett is found however, so this does not appear to be her, since it is a different name.

Genealogical Dict. of Maine and New Hampshire, under Swett p. 670, says Benjamin has a daughter Elizabeth b. 2 Jul 1667 and notes "on E. m. James French 8 Dec. 1709" which is clearly sloppy work since the record says Elizabeth Scott not Elizabeth Swett, John French not James French. Under French, p. 254, John m. (1) Lydia, m. (2) Hampton 8 Dec 1709 "Elizabeth (Dalton 3?) Scott". No James is listed in the section on French. Under Dalton, p. 180, Samuel Dalton has a daughter Elizabeth b. 11 Feb 1661 who was m. by 1700 a Mr. Scott, and notes an Elizabeth Scott m. Hampton 8 Dec 1709 John French who was brother of the Edward French who married Mary Dalton, Elizabeth's sister. Under Scott, p. 614, nothing pertinent is apparent.

So the most likely answer is that John French m. Hampton (not Newbury) 8 Dec (not 3 Dec) 1709 Elizabeth (Dalton) Scott (not Elizabeth Swett).
