    John Cobleigh, b. abt 1479 (age 13 in 1492); m. (1) by 1502, Jane Fortescue, dau of William Fortescue of Pruteston or Preston in Ermington, co. Devon, d. 1 Feb 1519/20, & wife Elizabeth Champernoun, dau. & coh. Richard Champernoun of Inworthy, Corwall (see Thomas Fortescue, History of the Family Fortescue (1886) pp. 1-9). Jane died by 12 May 1527, and he m. (2) Elizabeth Owen wid. He d. 24 Oct 1540, Elizabeth surv., Inq. p.m. 33 Hen. VIII (1546) shows he had manors of Brightley, Stowford, Snape, Bremridge, Stowford Carder & Nymet St. George (DA 34:619-92; Vivian, Visit. of Devon, pp. 353 & 357). Probable descendant of Henry I of England.
