Henderson's parents are listed as James McClung Walton and Nancy Harris, and he was born in the home of Lucinda Ocheltree (mother of Henderson's future wife).
It would appear that Henderson Walton was the illegitimate son of James McClung Walton and Nancy Harris, unless there was another James McClung Walton. (The census records don't suggest that James McClung Walton born about 1817 had a son named James.) Henderson may be the Henderson Harris (age 4) living with Walter and Margaret McLung (McClung?) in the 1870 census (Jane Lew, Lewis, West Virginia).
Henderson was living with James and his wife Margaret in the 1880 census, but his relationship is listed as "living in family" (not "son").
