C, April 6. 1852; educated at Collegiate Institute, Cobourg, Ont.. and Victoria University; B. A. (1874); B. Sc. (1876); LL. B. (1878); many years senator of Victoria University, and, since federation, of the University of Toronto; L. H. D. (Hon.) Syracuse University; LL. D. (Hon.) Lafayette College (1912).
