There was another house—well still to be seen—about half-way between Mr. Strong's house and Matfield river, on the old Cary farm. The late Dea. John Whitman is said to have gone to school in this house. Of course, the house must have been standing as late as 1740. It was, no doubt, the residence of Francis Cary, son of the old town clerk, who was brought up with Samuel Tomkins, and had his estate in East Bridgewater, and who married Hannah Brett as early as 1685, and who had five children; Ephraim, one of the oldest, married Hannah Waldo, 1709, and had five children, 1709-1716, owned and lived upon his father's homestead and house, and died 1765, aged 87.

The above-named Francis Cary had two sons and three daughters. The sons’ names are as follows:
Ephraim and Samuel. Ephraim settled on the home place, and Samuel moved out of town. Epliraim had five sons and two daughters; viz., Ezra, Zechariah, Ephraim, Daniel and Benjamin. Ezra and Daniel moved to the Jerseys, Zechariah settled in the North Precinct, Ephraim lived on the home place, and Benjamin moved to Windsor, Conn. Children (Cary):
    i. SAMUEL, born 1677; married Mary Pool.
ii. EPHRAIM, born 1678; married Hannah Waldo.
iii. MARY, born 1681; married Nicholas Whitman.
iv. LYDIA, born 1683; married Joseph Edson.
    v. MELETIAH, born 1685; married Joseph Lucas. No children; died 1729.

  3. Francis Cary married Lydia Brett, rather than Hannah Brett. In an article in the American Genealogist v. 61 no. 3 pages 129-132 a very convincing argument was made stating that Hannah Brett married a Turner and her sister Lydia married Francis Cary. (from by Mary Lou Clegg: mclegg@gte.net).
