The Jacka family lived in Mayfield when they first wnt to Newcastle. Edwin K. J acka managed Moran and Cato's Stores in Melbourne - a roving commission from one store to another. He came up to Newcastle as a Company Representative for Royal and Harper, who may have been produce merchants. Les said his father would hire a horse and sulkey to move around Newcastle(c.1915). He recalled his father riding as the King of Italy in a procession . Perhaps a local celebration fo r the end of W.W.1.
