Kitchen Tea at Central Lansdowne.

(Contributed).

A very enjoyable evening was spent at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. McKay, Lansdowne, on 27th Sept., the occasion being a kitchen tea to Miss Bertha Drury on the eve of her marriage to Mr. E. Aldous. As the couple entered they were greeted with "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows," by the company, which numbered about 70. The evening was spent in games, etc. Supper was served by the ladies on tables erected on the verandah for the occasion, after which a halt was called by Mr. Chas. Barlin, who acted as chairman. Mr. Barlin spoke of the qualities of the guests, as also did Mr. James Ritchie and Mr. Bennett. The chairman called on Mrs. McKay to make the presentation of the many and useful gifts, which she did in a neat little speech. In responding, Mr. Aldous thanked the friends for their presents and good wishes and made special mention of the presentation, which had been made the previous day to Miss Drury at the close of the service in the Methodist Church, and expressed the hope that she would remain organist for many years to come. Mr. C. C. Drury as a member of Bertha's family, thanked the gathering for the tribute paid his sister and the honor they had done her family, and some had travelled many miles to attend. Apologies for absence were received from Cr. McLaughlin and Mr. and Mrs. The happy evening came to a close with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne," and three cheers for the guests.
