  2. There are two couples named David and Hannah Cobb, one m. Abington 1763, and one m., Norton 1765. Source:Allred, Marilyn. Town of Warwick, Franklin County, Massachusetts, Genealogical Records 1739-1900, Births, Marriages,, p. 60, picks the wrong one. The birth of both daughter Hannah and son David are recorded in both the Warwick VRs and the Norton VRs with the same date, showing it is the couple from Norton, i.e., wife Hannah Bassett, not Hannah Orcutt.
  3. Websites identify Hannah as the daughter of Benjamin Bassett and Hannah Macomber, b. Bridgewater 1747. There is another Hannah b. 1745 to Nathan Bassett and Hannah Washburn. The marriage record calls her Hannah 2d, and of these two she is the youngest, but use of 2d for women often only was meant to identify the daughter as opposed to the mother. Allred says she d. 1770, age 26, which would favor the daughter of Nathan. Neither father appears to have a probate, and Mitchell isn't helpful. Hannah, unfortunately, did not live long enough to provide any clues via the names of her children.

David appears easier to identify. There is a David Cobb, of appropriate age, born in Norton, and he and Hannah sell 25 acres in Norton in 1769, suggesting he was indeed a native of that place. This is largely circumstantial but seems probable.
