[edit] 1910 CensusCharles O Colby, age 32, is a fastener at the shipyard. He rents his home on Winter St in Topsham, Maine. He, as well as his parents, were born in Maine. He has been married to Grace E Colby, age 29, for 5 years. Grace was born in Maine. Her father was born in Canada, and her mother was born in Maine. They have two children. Mary K Colby is 4. Orrin A Colby is 11 months old. Grace's father, Ezra Hume, is also in the household. He is 62 and widowed. He was born in Canada, as were his parents, and is a naturalized citizen. Ezra Hume is a laborer in the iron works. Both Ezra Hume and Charles Colby were out of work on April 15, 1910. Erza Hume had been out of work for the past year (52 weeks). Charles Colby had been unemployed six weeks during the last year.
[edit] 1920 CensusCharles O Colby, 43, and Grace E Colby, 39, live in a rented home on Winter Street in Topsham, Sagadahoc, Maine. Charles Colby is fastener at the Bath ship yards. They have three children living with them. Mary K, 14; Orrin A, 11; and Alice M, 9. All three are attending school. Note that in this census, Grace's father is noted as being born in Massachusetts. He is no longer a member of the household.
[edit] 1930 CensusCharles O Colby, 53, and Grace E Colby, 49, rent a home in Topsham in the Pejepscot Mills village for $18/month. They were married at ages 28 and 24, respectively. Charles Colby is a yard foreman at the paper mill. Their son, Orin A Colby, 21, lives with them. He is a laborer at the paper mill. Grace's father is noted as being born in Massachusetts. Both he and his son are employed at the time of the census and neither is a veteran.
