http://freepages.folklore.rootsweb.com/~pickensarchive/meckdvs.html Notes from "The Mecklenburg Signers and Their Neighbors", by Worth S.Ray. Archibald Crockett, his wife proved in Mecklenburg County, N.C. Jan 3, 1804 (his wife was a King) mentions: 1. Son, Elias Crockett, land where I live 2. Daughter, Ann Crockett, wife of a Mr. Taylor, tract of land where Frederick Taylor lives (evidently Ann married Frederick Taylor)> 3. Son John Crockett, to him i will and gequeath a tract and parcel of land now lying in the hands of Col. Thomas King, now living inthe State ofTenn., in Hawkins county, and all the rest of my property, except one woman's saddle, t be taken out for my daughter mary ann> Executores: Son John Crockett and SamuelDowns, in the presence of Eli Crocket and Clias Crocket (Note: The following reference of Archibald Crockett as the grandfather of Davy Crockett is apparently incorrect based upon research by several researchers, but is being included as a reference) The above will of the grandfather of the celebrated and famous David (Davy) Crockett, his fahte being the son of John Crockett mentioned in the will. This will refutes the idea that the father of "David Crockett" was a penniless "back woodsman" in Ten, and shows that he was a close kinsman of the Honorable Thomas King, an uncle, who lived in and helped to corgaize Hawkins County, Tenn,. (in 1786), and who served from that diestrict in the Legislature of N.C. MARRIAGES Archibald Crockett married Deborah Wilson, Jan 12, 1792 Archilbald Crockett married Esther Davis, April 3, 1820 (Note from the will of James Davis we learn theat Archibald crockett married his daugher, Esther Davis, whis will probated April 18, 1837) Elijah Crockett, married Mary Davie, who was a sister of Willliam Richardson Davie, the familous N.C. Statesman and purist. Elizabeth Crockett, married Joseph Wallis, April 10, 1823, She was the daughter of Eligah and Mary Davie Crockett, and Joseph Wallis was the son of Rev. Jame Wallis, the son-in-law of ohn McKnitt Alexander John M.Crockett married Levicy C. Barnett, Sept. 29, 1828 Margaret Crockett married John McKnitt Wallis, son of Rev. James wallis in 1813 Margaret Crockett married William Morrow March 7, 1794 Sarah Jane Taylor married John Sharp of Sept 18, 1854.
Query on this line: Seeking any information that anyone would be willing to share on Archibald Crockett and family. He was born abt. 1732 possibly in Lancaster County PA. Married Mary Ann King. Died 3 Jun 1804 in Mecklenburg County, NC. In his will he leaves to "his son John land now in the hands of Col. Thomas King who lives in Hawkins County, TN." Archibald was the son of Robert Crockett of County Antrim Ireland. Would also seek any further information on any associated Mecklenburg Crocketts. Willing to share what I have.
