Person pages tutorial - add person link [31 January 2008]

The add person hyperlink is not working. The namespace seems to be entered correctly so I do not know how to fix this. --Beth 07:58, 31 January 2008 (EST)

The "add" stuff links to Special Pages which links differently that most of the WeRelate pages. They connect like an external link (use the entire URL with single brackets), which is how I treated it. There might be a special trick to get it to link differently that I'm not aware of though. --Ronni 11:24, 31 January 2008 (EST)
Any time you have a Special page link with a ? in it, you have to use the entire URL with single brackets around it. (It's kind of a pain.) I also add <span class="plainlinks"> before the opening bracket, and </span> after it so that the little "off-site arrow" isn't shown after the link. I'll make a note of this on the main Help review page. Thanks!--Dallan 20:21, 31 January 2008 (EST)

Person Pages Tutorial -Surname unknown [6 February 2008]

I want to add to the instructions what one does if the person's surname is unknown. What is the convention? Do you type in Unknown or unknown or leave the surname field blank? --Beth 08:15, 31 January 2008 (EST)

The convention is to enter Unknown. If you leave the surname field blank, the system sets it to Unknown for you.--Dallan 20:21, 31 January 2008 (EST)

Person Pages Tutorial - + link for adding sources and images

There are several references for using the plus link to add sources and images on the person page. I never use this; am I supposed to? I edit a person page by typing in all of my source, image, and note numbers and then adding the appropriate sources, images and notes at the bottom of the edit page. --Beth 12:54, 6 February 2008 (EST)

Source index? [2 February 2008]

On the Definitions help page under Community Sources there is a reference to a source index. The link points to a page that doesn't exist. It's the "WeRelate:About" kinda page. I don't see a "Help:Source index" kinda page either. Is this page in the works? --Ronni 02:05, 2 February 2008 (EST)

Community Sources is referred to on the Person Pages Tutorial and I don't like the reference. The choices on the person page are Sources, My sources and Title. I think this could be confusing to new users. --Beth 07:16, 2 February 2008 (EST)

Community source is an out-of-date term. Thanks for finding this. I edited the definitions page and the person and family page tutorials to change the reference to community sources to just Sources, and I tried to better distinguish Sources from MySources.--Dallan 16:46, 4 February 2008 (EST)

FTE link to "My Relate" [2 February 2008]

Under Tools in the FTE there is a link to the My Relate page. This link is broken.

The Help:Family Tree Explorer references this command and I would like to go ahead and add the link to the page it's referring to on the help page, but unsure where exactly it's pointing to now. Would it be the Dashboard? --Ronni 15:11, 2 February 2008 (EST)

I think I should just remove the Tools and Help menus from the FTE. They just repeat what's already available now in the new drop-down menus.--Dallan 16:46, 4 February 2008 (EST)

FTE and "Go To Page" [3 February 2008]

In the FTE, under Edit, the "Go to page" doesn't work. Gives a "you have requested an invalid special page" error. --Ronni 11:35, 3 February 2008 (EST)

I'll remove this menu item as well, since you now get the same functionality by browsing pages. Thanks for catching these!--Dallan 16:46, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Family Pages Tutorial [14 February 2008]

Sample for annotations. They seem to be missing.

See this sample annotated family picture--Beth 23:16, 11 February 2008 (EST)

I stil don't find any annotations, just boxes enclosing the heads of people in the photograph. Someone just give me another example to use. --Beth 20:48, 14 February 2008 (EST)

Research Tutorial and 2 different search pages for articles. [14 February 2008]

I am reviewing Help:Research tutorial. This link in the tutorial Articles search page is different from the actual screen accessed under Search>Articles.

We have 2 different search screens. The first referenced above has the search and browse function on the same page. The one accessed through the menu has the search and browse function on 2 pages.

Which page should the tutorial reference? --Beth 07:18, 14 February 2008 (EST)
