WeRelate:Suggestions/Site speed - request for faster loading

Pages at WeRelate seem to load very slowly. Can we get a little background on what might be causing this and what could be done to improve it? Do any of these play into it?

• server age
• the ads
• running old Javascript
• running "batch" jobs such as GEDCOM uploads (added by --DataAnalyst 22:33, 8 July 2017 (UTC))
• the ever growing list of double redirects
  • How harmful are the double (and triple) redirects?
  • Do we use a bot to clear them now? It doesn't look like we do, so if not, could we?
