[add comment] [edit] GEDCOM: review comments [5 January 2021]Hi, I've been reviewing your Howery.ged submission. Although the lack of source references is disappointing, the Gedcom looks just about ready for final import. There is one area though, that I would like you to go over first as discussed below, because as it is there would be some important family information dropped if we went ahead now. I see that you confirmed matches on the five Howery families that the system identified as possible matches in the existing WeRelate database. That was good, but there is an additional step that it seems you didn't notice or decided to skip: updating the existing database records. The way the import system works, the matched families and the matched family members do not get imported when the final import is done (because they already exist). However your Gedcom file may have additional or better information than the existing WeRelate database has, and so there is an update phase available after declaring a family as a match. I looked at a couple of your five Howery matches, and indeed you have some good looking information in there that's currently missing. For instance, the first listed matched family, that of Dudley and Mary Hazel, has in your Gedcom a bunch of residence, emigration, and other events for Dudley and for Mary Hazel. Unless you indicate that you want to update the database with that data, it won't happen. You indicate what should be updated by clicking on the matched family entry, which will bring up an "Update pages" display in the lower half of the window. On the left is the information in your Gedcom; on the right the current database data is shown. As you scroll the lower half, you can select items (like the 1920 residence in Humphrey, Neb.) by checking the box next to the item. When you get to the bottom of the list (having selected all the items you want to get into the WeRelate records), you'll find an "Update" button at the bottom. Click that and the WeRelate database will be updated with the new information (immediately, not later at the main import). So I'm sure you would want your carefully collected data for these matched Howery families to be included, so I will return the Gedcom to you for that update process. You can then again make the file "Ready for Import" and it should then get imported. --robert.shaw 21:53, 5 January 2021 (UTC) |
